He often called him baseball nut due to his fondness to the sport, he is his classmate and one of Tsuna’s closest friends, so he is in the inner circle of the group. This optimistic, busy body is Gokudera’s rival for the position as Tsuna’s right (or left for that matter) hand man. Although at first, only Gokudera saw him as his rival but Yamamoto said it himself that he is Tsuna’s right hand-man (even though Tsuna doesn’t care about that topic). This made Gokudera pissed. He seems to dislike Yamamoto and sometimes jealous of his enthusiastic personality. One time during the future arc they have an argument as Gokudera refused to accept him but Yamamoto punched him and told him how his loyalty to Tsuna is suffocating him. Proclaiming himself as the right hand man but he didn't fullfilled his duty of uniting the guardians but instead distancing himself from them. This opens his eyes that he did want to be more than just a subordinate to Tsuna, he genuinely wants to be his friends, but until now his loyalty is still there.
